The Edge Explorer Challenge is a scavenger hunt built for families and little kids, turning your visit into an interactive adventure through immersive, multi-level indoor experiences, panoramic skyline views, and iconic New York City landmarks. 

Pick up an Explorer Guide during your visit and complete challenges throughout Pulse, Prism, Kaleidoscope, Crystal Cave, Reflections, Infinite City, and the outdoor observation deck. Along the way, kids and parents can discover hidden details together, test their observation skills, earn points, and unlock a special reward at the finish line. 

The Explorer Challenge is designed with young explorers in mind, giving kids a hands-on reason to look closely at every installation. It’s just as fun for teens, friends, and multigenerational family groups, but it’s especially made for parents visiting with kids who want an easy way to keep them engaged from the moment they walk in.

Every challenge encourages guests to engage with the installations, discover New York City landmarks, and experience Edge from new perspectives. 

The Edge Explorer Challenge is designed for guests of all ages and is especially popular with families looking for interactive things to do in NYC with younger kids in tow. 

Start your journey on Level 4 or 5, then continue through Level 100 before heading out to the outdoor observation deck. Each installation has its own challenge and its own points.

Seven Immersive Challenges Inside Edge  

  • Pulse (Level 4 or 5), Color Watching: Step into a room filled with 400 glowing orbs and watch the colors pulse around you. . 
  • Prism (Level 4), What Do You See?: Watch NYC images spin through a prism on the walls and name two things you recognize. 
  • Kaleidoscope (Level 100), Shapes & Sounds: Step inside the city’s largest kaleidoscope and describe the shapes you see.  
  • Reflections (Level 100), Count Yourself: Walk through reflections and count how many times you see yourself. Worth 5 points.
  • Infinite City (Level 100), Feel the Energy: Walk through a maze of mirrored skyscrapers and see what happens to the lights inside. 
  • Crystal Cave (Level 100), Spot the Rainbow: Stand under the crystal canopy and watch the rainbow shift as you move.

Observation Deck Challenges, 1,100 Feet Above the City 

Once you’ve completed the indoor installations, head outside to the outdoor deck for a set of skyline challenges. 

  • Sky Deck Directions, Look West: Spot the Hudson River, how many boats can you count?
  • Look South: Find the famous statue on an island in the harbor that has welcomed visitors since 1886 and name her color. 
  • Look Around: Count how many bridges connecting Manhattan to the other boroughs you can spot. 
  • Glass Floor, Brave Challenge: Step onto the glass floor.

Claim Your Reward

Complete the Explorer Guide, add up your score, and find an Edge Guide before you leave. Every completed challenge brings you one step closer to earning your Explorer reward and Certificate of Achievement issued from 1,100 feet above New York City. 

It’s a memorable, hands-on way for families to explore Edge together, with a reward at the end that kids will want to show off.
