World Photography Day in NYC: Capture Stunning Skyline Views at Edge
August 19th is World Photography Day, and there’s no better place to celebrate your love for the lens than at Edge, the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere. Edge NYC invites anyone with a passion for photography to explore its incredible views – offering a one of a kind setting for capturing the city skyline, unique angles, and unforgettable moments high above New York City.
A Photographer’s Dream
At 1,131 feet above the city, Edge offers a completely new perspective on New York. The sweeping outdoor views showcase landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, the Hudson River, and Central Park. No matter your gear—smartphone, mirrorless camera, or classic DSLR – you’ll find endless opportunities to capture striking, frame-worthy shots.
Unique perspectives for photographers:
- Glass-floored deck for a dynamic downward shot of the city
- Angled glass walls that frame epic skyline silhouettes
- Unobstructed 360° views across Manhattan, the Hudson River and beyond
- Sunrise and sunset lighting for golden-hour magic
- Unique photo ops at “The Eastern Point,” where only one person can stand at the tip.
Tips for Capturing the Best Photos at Edge
Whether you’re coming for content or keepsakes, here are a few ways to level up your shots:
- Come Early (or Late)
Sunrise and sunset are peak times for soft light and shadows. As the sun sets, the skyline transforms into dramatic hues, creating a stunning canvas for your photos. Mastercard holders can get sunrise access to Edge on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month. Find out more here.
- Focus on Reflections
The glass walls create artistic reflections—especially at dusk. Play with symmetry, mirror angles, and even lens flares.
- Look Down (if You Dare)
Edge’s transparent floor isn’t just thrilling—it’s a great subject. Shoot downward or from above for a truly vertigo-inducing perspective.
- Use a Wide-Angle Lens
To capture the sheer scope of the skyline or that feeling of floating above it all, go wide. Phones in landscape mode work well too.
